Hermitage Golf Course is Nashville's premier dual-course public golf facility, located along the Cumberland River in Old Hickory, Tennessee — roughly 30 minutes from downtown Nashville. The property offers two distinct championship layouts: the President's Reserve and General's Retreat, making it one of the most complete public golf destinations in the Southeast.
The President's Reserve, designed by Denis Griffiths and opened in 2000, has been recognized by Golf Digest as one of the "Top 10 in Tennessee." The course plays 7,200 yards through 300 acres of wetlands along the Cumberland River, with bentgrass greens and zoysia fairways delivering premium playing conditions throughout the season. The signature 15th hole features an island green that ranks among the most memorable par-3s in the state.
The General's Retreat, designed by Gary Roger Baird and opened in 1986, carries a distinguished LPGA pedigree. The course hosted the Sara Lee Classic from 1988 to 1999, with World Golf Hall of Fame members Nancy Lopez, Meg Mallon, and Laura Davies among its champions. The 6,773-yard layout features four par-5s, three of which offer risk-reward opportunities over water, and has been voted "Best Golf Course in Nashville" by local publications.
The facility includes a full practice range, short game area, clubhouse restaurant, and comprehensive pro shop. PGA instruction is available for golfers of all levels. The 36-hole format allows groups to play both courses over a weekend stay or tackle one per visit, and the Cumberland River setting adds a scenic backdrop that few Nashville-area courses can match.
Hermitage is one of the top-ranked public facilities in Tennessee and consistently draws golfers from across the region. Both courses are open to the public seven days a week, with online tee time booking available at hermitagegolf.com. The property also hosts corporate outings, charity tournaments, and group events throughout the year.
