About The Honors Course

The Honors Course stands as one of America's most prestigious and challenging golf destinations, designed by the legendary Pete Dye and opened on July 2, 1983. Created with the singular mission of "Honoring Amateur Golf," this private club in Ooltewah represents a well-preserved example of Pete Dye's revolutionary "death-or-glory architecture" that was considered radical in the 1980s golf world.

The championship layout stretches an intimidating 7,694 yards from the Silver tees with a par of 72, featuring a course rating of 78.3 and an exceptional slope rating of 155 that makes it one of the most challenging courses in the United States. Dye's masterful design incorporates acres of tall native-grass rough, unusual Zoysia grass fairways, and lightning-fast greens that demand precision and strategic thinking from every player who steps onto the course.

The Honors Course has established itself as one of golf's premier venues for amateur championships, hosting an impressive array of USGA events including the 1991 US Men's Amateur Championship, 1994 Curtis Cup Matches, NCAA Men's Division I Championships (1996, 2010), and the 2016 US Junior Amateur Championship. The club will continue this tradition by hosting the 2024 US Senior Amateur Championship, further cementing its reputation as a championship venue.

Beyond its tournament pedigree, The Honors Course maintains its founding philosophy of celebrating amateur golf while providing members with exceptional golf experiences, services, and facilities. The course's unique characteristics, from its challenging design to its commitment to amateur golf traditions, create an unparalleled environment where the game's purest form is both tested and honored in one of Tennessee's most spectacular golf settings.
